I went to buy milk this morning and was lucky to return with the shirt on my back. The locals are very friendly, all of a sudden.

[ well, it's a relief if nothing else that Prior's noticed the state of the world out there. it's a strange thing to try and describe while not being entirely certain you haven't been part of a mass hallucination. John's distracted enough with his bark of laughter following the relief of shared experience to not really take much physical notice to being gently puppeteered— no adverse notice, anyway. he watches it happen with mild fascination, a serial soap-watcher taking note of the recurring character's failure to flinch. ]
